April 1996...fourteen years ago... God sees fit to grow and develop a new life inside of me. Only God knew what an incredible father my man would be.
April 1998... twelve years ago... my man completes his paramedic certification. A big deal for him, a bigger deal for me. The fourteen months of training was class work and clinical time for him equalled boot camp for me. For the first time in my life, it wasn't about me and I had to sacrifice for someone else. Looking back, I think it was a direct act of God that we survived.
April 23, 1999...eleven years ago...my man walks up and down, up and down, up and down the steps at the hospital with me making me laugh, reminding me of our 5th anniversary... anxiously awaiting the birth of our second. The joke was on us...she came May 20!
Spring 2001... nine years ago... my man decides he wants to go back to school to complete his nursing degree. A leap of faith on my part... have I matured enough to sacrifice for 3 years? Can we survive another time of him in school?
Spring 2002... eight years ago... my man cries with me as we bury our stillborn son.
Spring 2003... seven years ago... my man balances nursing school with a high risk pregnancy for his wife. Amazingly he balances it all with a faith that will not waiver. In September, our gift of Mercy joined us.
Spring 2005... five years ago... my man is employed as an RN and loves it! He opts to let his paramedic certification expire.
April 23, 2007... three years ago... my man committed to me and to our God to pay off over $42,000 worth of debt and live debt free. For two years, he worked as many hours as he could get and often God miraculously intervened and all the debt was paid off in 23 months!
Spring 2007... three years ago... my man's own father was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma. I had a front row seat to watch a grown man travel 650 miles to sit with his father throughout his chemo treatment and then tenderly administer his shot the day after the treatment. Three times this family traveled every three weeks so Daddy could be with Grandpa John.
April 23, 2008... two years ago... my man was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm that measured almost 5 c.m. Once again, my world was rocked much more than his. This man I married has a faith that rarely is moved.
April 2010... today... it's not quite our anniversary yet but we took advantage of Spring Break to get away. We left the 3 Es with my sister in WI and drove points north. It's been an incredible journey of wandering and discovering, relaxing and reconnecting. This time has been another reminder to me that my marriage to my man is all about the journey, not the destination. It's been an incredible journey thus far. Praying for many, many more years to wander and discover with this man of mine!
